Title: Poster of Ahmat Adam Djouma’s involvement in the Achieving the Dream Convention 2019.
Client: Internal Project
Made with: Canva.com
Time in Development: 8 hours
Background: Student reflection through photos of who our students of today are in Community colleges. I was honored to be at the Achieving the Dream Conference, February 2019 held in Long Beach, California all week as the person to assist a student who was blind with accessibility and to guide him to where he needed to be, as well as a reader and a notetaker for him. Ahmat Adam Djouma is completely blind from MVCC.
Solution Developed: The storyboard below has photos which was to coordinate and create a visual story of how a student with blindness was involved and provided with inclusive involvement during his time in California. Ahmat was one of eight students chosen nationally for his leadership, diversity, and being a change agent. He presented to over 2,300 attendees for all to understand his story, as one of the students in colleges of today.
Results: The reflection of using Ahmat Adam Djouma’s photos, as a way to tell his story is only part of the full picture of this amazing person’s life. There is a link to a news article that provides more information about this student and his journey, “Education ‘opens doors’ for Sudanese refugee” https://www.uticaod.com/news/20190216/education-opens-doors-for-sudanese-refugee I would highly recommend you also read his “I am from” poem also a part of this article.
