Hello, my name is Tamara Mariotti. I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend, a co-worker, etc. I have worn many hats in my career as well. The common thread that my career path has taken has evolved through many twists and turns along the way. I have always been involved in the advocacy for people with disabilities. Starting my career in corporate post acute rehabilitation for people with brain injury, to a drastic move to non-profit civil rights agency, and currently coordinate the office for services and accessibility for students with disabilities at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.
I have learned from the best, and most importantly those with disabilities, and had the most wonderful opportunities to experience how technology can be adapted to create independent living, work or social outlets for people with disabilities. Designing supports with teams to create universal designs for learning in the classroom, on-line, or in web design has become my personal favorite experience. I have assisted with developing procedures for captioning needs, and enjoy working with screen reading software to incorporate website design in an accessible way. I often say, that technology design is the “modern day Jig-saw puzzle” and enjoy the challenge to figure out how to create inclusive designs for all.
